Volcanoes & Lodges: Irazú to Corcovado
A twelve-day lodge-to-lodge journey from the Irazú Volcano and the Orosi Valley through cloud-forest quetzal country to the southern Pacific beaches and the wilds of Corcovado.
Trace Costa Rica from its volcanic heart to its wildest corner on this twelve-day circuit built around the country's most charming lodges. The journey begins in San José with a city or night tour, then climbs into the Cartago highlands to visit the Irazú Volcano, the famous basilica, and the colonial ruins of Ujarrás or the Orosi Valley, with nights spent at characterful coffee-country lodges. From there the route enters Tapantí National Park and the misty Los Santos highlands, the best place in the country to see the resplendent quetzal, with days dedicated to quetzal spotting, the Los Campesinos waterfalls and the forests of Dota.
After a visit to Los Quetzales National Park, the pace slows at Kinkara Lodge in the San Isidro valley, with a full day to enjoy the lodge and its activities. The route then descends to the southern Pacific coast: the celebrated Nauyaca waterfalls, restful nights at Cristal Ballena, and a snorkeling tour in Marino Ballena National Park, home of the iconic whale-tail sandbar.
The grand finale is Corcovado, often described as one of the most biologically intense places on Earth, with three days in the area before a scenic domestic Sansa flight returns you to San José. Contact us for a personalized quote and lodge availability.
